Wesley W. Jones
Wes focuses his practice on patent matters, including litigation, client counseling, and patent preparation and prosecution. Melding his legal experience at law firms and as the chief patent counsel for a startup company with his background as an engineer, Wes provides clients with an invaluable perspective and successful strategies to protect their intellectual property.
Appearing before U.S. district courts, the International Trade Commission, and the U.S. Patent Trial and Appeal Board, Wes has extensive experience in all stages of patent litigation, including discovery, depositions, motions practice, claim construction, and trial preparation. He has prepared petitions for inter partes review and represented Fortune 500 companies in the electronics and technology industries in a number of patent matters in federal courts across the country, as well as the ITC.
Wes has experience with a wide range of technologies, including wireless and optical communication systems, digital signal processing, data coding and encryption, electronic circuit design, computer networks, semiconductor devices, control systems, computer architecture design, medical devices, and software applications. He also has performed due diligence reviews of patent portfolios, negotiated and prepared intellectual property licenses and development agreements, and provided validity and infringement evaluations.
Prior to joining Banner Witcoff, Wes practiced at Kacvinksy Daisak Bluni PLLC, where he was a founding member of the firm’s litigation group, and at Kenyon & Kenyon LLP in Washington, D.C. He also served as chief patent counsel for PixelOptics Inc., a startup company developing electro-active optical lenses.
In addition to his legal experience, Wes offers clients a deep technical understanding of a variety of technologies as a former engineer. He previously worked as an engineering associate for GTE Service Corporation (now Verizon). He performed testing and evaluation of cellular telephones, provided support for the rollout of GTE’s initial DSL service, and investigated the robustness of MPEG-4 error-resiliency techniques for video on demand applications. He also worked as a senior communications engineer for The Mitre Corporation, where he modeled and evaluated the performance of a low probability of detection communication system.
