Sonia focuses primarily on design patent and trademark prosecution, counseling, and enforcement matters. She prepares and prosecutes design patent applications on a global scale and assists in design patent counseling for various multinational companies. She also helps with the prosecution and enforcement of trademark matters for numerous clients.
As a law clerk, Sonia successfully leverages her years of experience in Banner Witcoff’s Design Department, where she served as a design patent prosecution specialist, a paralegal, and eventually a senior paralegal. She has experience managing the global design portfolios for several Fortune 500 companies and acting as a mentor to new and current staff members.
Sonia is currently pursuing a Juris Doctor degree at The George Washington University Law School, set to graduate in May 2020. Sonia is president of the GW South Asian Law Students Association, the regulatory chair of the GW Student Intellectual Property Association, and a blog moderator for the GW Intellectual Property and Entertainment Law Brief. She also serves as the director of social action for the Mid-Atlantic Region of the National Black Law Students Association. In addition, Sonia is the current executive production editor of the American Intellectual Property Association (AIPLA) Quarterly Journal; her note, “Determining the ‘Article of Manufacture’ in Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality Design Patents,” will be published in the Winter 2020 issue.
