January 10, 2011 — Banner & Witcoff, Ltd., a national intellectual property law firm that is dedicated to the procurement, enforcement and litigation of intellectual property rights throughout the world, has again prosecuted the most U.S. design patents to issuance by a law firm in a calendar year.
Calendar year 2010 marked the eighth consecutive year that Banner & Witcoff has procured more U.S. design patents than any other law firm. The firm procured 641 U.S. design patents on behalf of its clients in 2010. Electrolux, Microsoft, NIKE, Nokia, PepsiCo and Toshiba collectively accounted for the majority of design patents procured by Banner & Witcoff in 2010.
In 2010, Banner & Witcoff also hit the milestone of procuring more than 5,000 U.S. design patents since year 2000; that is twice the amount of U.S. design patents procured by the second place law firm for that period of time.
“We are thrilled to hit the milestone of procuring over 5,000 U.S. design patents over the course of the last eleven years. This accomplishment is a result of our design-driven clients and our innovative design team. We look forward to continuing to work with the most innovative corporations and designers in the world.” – Robert S. Katz, principal shareholder at Banner & Witcoff.
Katz also notes that significant changes could be on the horizon for design law in 2011. “The Innovative Design Protection and Piracy Prevention Act, also known as the Fashion Bill, could bring about significant changes in design law in 2011, should the legislation pass.”
