Banner & Witcoff is pleased to announce that John Fleming and David Gerk have, in collaboration with faculty members of the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department, co-developed a Patent Law Option undergraduate/graduate program at The George Washington University. The Patent Law Option, a three course program thought to be the first of its kind available at the undergraduate level, begins offering the first course in the program in the spring 2006 semester.
The Patent Law Option addresses the important yet often overlooked role intellectual property laws, specifically including patent, trademark, and copyright law play in real world dealings within the technology sector and the scientists and engineers often employed by these industries. The program was designed to provide undergraduate (and non-law school graduate students) with the basic background, skills, and information relating to intellectual property laws and their interconnection with technology to allow students to utilize, understand and account for the effects this body of law and dealings may have on their work as researchers, employees, owners, and managers in the future.
John Fleming and David Gerk are scheduled to co-teach the second course (junior level and above) in the program, Patent Law for Engineers – MAE 171, beginning Fall of 2006.
