The GW School of Engineering & Applied Science will now offer Patent Law Option, the first full patent program for engineers. The program is designed and taught by Gerk, Fleming and GW professors. The program consists of three classes and is equivalent to a concentration program. The classes are designed to teach the fundamental principles of patent law and the influences of the U.S. patent system on modern engineering design. The option also aims to facilitate student internships in patent law firms, industry patent departments, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
