Mercedes Meyer Awarded IPO’s Carl B. Horton Distinguished Service Award!

We are excited to share that Banner Witcoff’s Mercedes Meyer, Ph.D. received the Intellectual Property Owner Association’s (IPO) Carl B. Horton Distinguished Service Award. Presented at IPO’s 2023 Annual Meeting in Boston, the award recognizes individuals who display extraordinary leadership and dedication to promoting the value of intellectual property.

“As someone who simply has a passion for helping others in our profession, I am humbled that IPO has recognized me for this award,” Mercedes said of the recognition.

With more than 20 years of intellectual property experience, Mercedes has represented leading life science and technology companies maintaining an extensive biotechnology and pharmaceutical patent management, prosecution, opinion, and due diligence practice. She frequently speaks on biotechnology, patent ethics and is a strong advocate for improving diversity and mental health within the legal profession.

In addition to building her practice, Mercedes continuously fosters ways to unite women in IP by serving as vice chair of AIPLA’s Women’s Committee and IPO’s Women’s Committee. In 2019, Mercedes helped develop the groundbreaking Intellectual Property Owners Association’s Women in IP Committee Gender Diversity in Innovation Toolkit, a blueprint for companies to assess and cultivate gender parity in innovation.

“This recognition is well-earned,” said firm president Janice Mitrius. “We are proud of the practice Mercedes has built and her efforts to make the legal profession more diverse and welcoming for everyone.”
