Washington, D.C., June 30, 2011 — Darrell G. Mottley, attorney and principal shareholder at Banner & Witcoff, was inaugurated on the evening of June 30th as President of the D.C. Bar and began his term as the 40th President of the D.C. Bar. Prior to becoming President, Mr. Mottley was elected and served as President-Elect of the D.C. Bar for the 2010-2011 term.
Mr. Mottley was sworn in by Chief Judge Eric T. Washington of District of Columbia Court of Appeals at the D.C. Bar’s Annual Business Meeting and Awards Dinner.
As D.C. Bar President, Mr. Mottley has committed to focus on the use of technology engagement to emphasize the priorities of the Bar, including the pro bono community.
Mr. Mottley brings a long history of Bar leadership to the position. Mr. Mottley formerly served as chair of the D.C. Bar Council on Sections and served on the D.C. Bar Strategic Planning Committee that developed the Bar’s priority goal areas. He was Vice Chair of the Council on Sections and Co-Chair of the Intellectual Property Law Section of the D.C. Bar. Mr. Mottley also served for three years on the Board of the Bar Association of the District of Columbia – a voluntary bar.
Mr. Mottley is a principal shareholder at Banner & Witcoff, and is the first patent attorney to be elected President of the D.C. Bar. He is a member of Banner & Witcoff’s Diversity Committee and co-chair of the firm’s Pro-Bono Committee. Prior to his law career, he worked for 13 years as an engineer in private practice, in the Federal Government, and as a commissioned Officer in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. Mr. Mottley earned his J.D., with honors, from The George Washington University; his M.B.A., and his B.S. in Engineering Science and Mechanics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
