Banner Witcoff Attorneys Scott Kelly and Ross Dannenberg will be speaking at the More Than Just a Game Conference in London on April 7-8.
Scott will join a panel in discussing “The Making of the Metaverse: an IP Perspective” on April 7. The panel will discuss the technical and legal requirements that are necessary to achieve a true and interconnected metaverse, and the IP issues that follow. Scott’s portion of this all-IP panel is subtitled “How Sci-Fi and Dreamers May Save Us from the VR Patent Wars.” Immersive technologies have been long expected, and indeed have been the subject of many patent applications. Yet we are only now realizing the long dream of these technologies. This may create a healthy innovation environment with patents being truly grounded in the hard technical challenges and their solutions. Other panelists include Gwilym Roberts (Kilburn & Strode), Rosie Burbidge (Gunner Cooke), and Nick Kempton (Osborne Clarke).
Ross will present “IP Analytics and Data” alongside Christopher Harrison, Head of IP Analytics and Data Insights at UKIPO on April 8. The presentation will cover trends in video game litigation and video game patent filings over the past decade, with a specific focus on trends visible in large datasets published by the USPTO and US courts.
The More than Just a Game conference invites top legal and gaming experts from around the world to explore emerging challenges in the industry and to encourage and build bridges between the industry and academic research.
