Washington, D.C., June 14, 2010 — The D.C. Bar announced today that Darrell G. Mottley, attorney and shareholder at Banner & Witcoff, was elected President-Elect of the D.C. Bar. Mr. Mottley will assume office on June 24, 2010 and will serve in that post for one year before becoming President. Mr. Mottley is the first patent attorney to be elected President-Elect of the D.C. Bar. The D.C. Bar is the mandatory Bar of the Nation’s Capital and is the second largest unified bar association in the U.S. with more than 93,000 members.
As D.C. Bar President, Mr. Mottley has committed to focus on the use of technology engagement, specifically social networking tools to promote flexible workplace environments and to emphasize the priorities of the Bar, including funding for the legal service community.
As President-Elect, Mr. Mottley brings a long history of Bar leadership to the position. Mr. Mottley currently chairs the D.C. Bar’s Council on Sections, and served on the D.C. Bar Strategic Planning Committee that developed the Bar’s priority goal areas. He was Vice Chair of the Council on Sections and Co-Chair of the Intellectual Property Law Section of the D.C. Bar. Mr. Mottley also serves on the Board of the Voluntary Bar Association of the District of Columbia.
Mr. Mottley is a shareholder at Banner & Witcoff, where he practices IP law. He is a member of the firm’s Diversity Committee and helped create the firm’s diversity scholarship for law students. Prior to his law career, he worked for 13 years as an engineer in private practice, in the Federal Government, and as a commissioned Officer in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. Mr. Mottley earned his J.D., with honors, from The George Washington University; his M.B.A., and his B.S. in Engineering Science and Mechanics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
