Chambers and Partners recognized Banner Witcoff as a top intellectual property law firm in its 2021 rankings of lawyers and law firms across the United States.
The firm received top rankings for patent prosecution in the District of Columbia and for intellectual property law in Illinois. The Chambers USA 2021 guide also ranked Banner Witcoff attorney Marc Cooperman as a leading practitioner in Illinois, with one client noting that he “is very practical and has an incredible depth of legal knowledge.”
The annual rankings are based on submissions from law firms and independent research conducted by Chambers that includes interviews with clients and industry sources.
In their interviews with researchers, clients praised Banner Witcoff as “an impressive practice across the board” with attorneys who “know their clients very deeply.” One interviewee said Banner Witcoff has “a great team with a range of abilities,” adding: “They take a practical approach to litigation and have a deep understanding of the technical issues.”
Banner Witcoff, a client remarked, “is excellent at assembling a team and playing to the strengths of the team members.” Another client said, “The team is well balanced between senior and junior attorneys and paralegals. They work as a team, which is very relevant when handling cases.”
The 2021 guide noted that Banner Witcoff is a “[s]trong boutique known for advising a range of clients in sectors as varied as computer software and consumer products” and is “[s]ought after for its advice on the management and protection of IP portfolios.”
The guide added that Banner Witcoff has a “particular strength in the patent prosecution space, where it has undertaken notable actions in the field of design patents” and is “highly regarded for the drafting and prosecution of electrical and mechanical arts patent applications.”
In addition to the firm’s proficiency in “handling design and business method patents, due diligence support on corporate transactions, and copyright, patent, trademark and trade secrets disputes,” the guide said that Banner Witcoff provides “seasoned representation for inter partes reviews at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) and [is] also adept counsel for district court, federal court and ITC proceedings.”
