As a former business owner of a multimillion-dollar information technology company providing products and services to its customers, Bob understands the legal and business needs of his clients. He focuses his practice on post-grant and appellate matters, licensing, and the preparation and prosecution of patent applications.

Bob has represented Fortune 50 companies in multiple complex and high-profile post-grant proceedings that involved co-pending district court litigation, and is familiar with the challenges faced by both patent owners and petitioners in these proceedings. Bob has counseled start-up firms, as well as national and billion-dollar international companies, with their IP strategy, licensing, and patent portfolio development and monetization, including infringement and validity opinions.

Leveraging his legal and business background, Bob relies on his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering and a master’s of business administration to prepare and prosecute patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). These include work in technologies ranging from telecommunication, computer hardware design, software systems, semiconductor fabrication, cellular communications, wireless devices and networking, and business methods.

Bob is also well-versed in appellate matters, including multiple oral arguments before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and at the U.S. International Trade Commission. Before joining Banner Witcoff, Bob was an attorney at a Washington, D.C.-based patent law firm and counsel at an Am Law 200 general practice firm. He also had a prior career in business working with a variety of high technology companies, including a multinational computer firm, global publishing conglomerate, and a national defense contractor. He was the founder and president of a multimillion-dollar technology company that provided custom-designed computer hardware, software, training, and certification solutions.
