Hugh combines his background in electrical engineering with practical industry experience to help his clients achieve their business goals. He has assisted clients with patent and trademark litigation and prosecution in a variety of technical fields, including microphone and audio electronics, sporting goods, industrial equipment, and consumer and retail products. Hugh also has experience in counseling and patent portfolio management, including due diligence and patentability analysis.
Hugh enjoys crafting creative solutions for clients ranging from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies and understands the diverse intellectual property needs that accompany the entire spectrum of business activity. Prior to joining Banner Witcoff, his experiences include:
- Working as an electrical engineer at a Fortune 500 manufacturing company, developing new product lines and implementing state-of-the-art quality control procedures;
- Owning and operating a large-scale event production company that specialized in live-sound production and event lighting; and
- Designing, developing, and manufacturing consumer products, such as an automatic medication dispenser and various home goods.
While attending The University of Alabama School of Law, Hugh excelled in the Entrepreneurship and Nonprofit Clinic. He gained valuable legal experience providing trademark counseling and registration services while drafting organizational and operational documents for Tuscaloosa area inventors and business owners.
Hugh currently volunteers with the Edward J. Lewis II Lawyers in the Classroom program, a Chicago Bar Association initiative that helps Chicagoland students better understand the U.S. Constitution, our legal system, and law-related careers.
